The Dinner Party

A hearty dinner, a wine explorer's journey, and your favourite people gathered around the table.

Winter is a season for comfort food and conversation. The perfect excuse to host a dinner party at home and savour a slow cooked meal and sip on smooth reds.

If you're always saying to family or friends "we need to plan a catch up" consider this your excuse and make it happen.

A sensory dinner party in a box.

Bluegrass at Home is your complete dinner party kit. The evening's theme is new vs aged premium red wines, tasted side by side.

Like any good dinner party, there are three courses. Each course is paired with a wine bracket of Bluegrass reds. The same wine from the same region, crafted by the same winemaker, years apart.

Rare and limited release cellar worthy wines, not readily available at your local bottleshop.

A wine journey across a decade.

Your guests explore different wine styles and experience how careful cellaring transforms the wine.

The new release Bluegrass wines are bold and fruit forward. The aged release wines are rich, smooth and complex.

You and your guests get to compare and decide which wine pairs best.

A menu adapted from our cellar door.

Chef Chiero has adapted the menu from our Bluegrass New vs Aged Wine and Food Pairing experience at the cellar door to suit the home cook.

Hearty rich dishes designed to be slow cooked and served when ready.

No wine expertise required.

You don't need to be a wine whiz to host the Bluegrass at Home dinner party.

To guide your tasting journey and get the conversation flowing, we have a phone friendly trivia quiz. Simply scan the QR code on your phone to begin.

Good friendships get better with age. So do good wines.

A wine journey. A reason to gather. A memory in the making.

Here's how a Bluegrass at Home night plays out.

Three wine brackets paired with three courses, one beautiful evening.

On arrival.

Pop the bonus magnum of Bluegrass Sparkling. Greet your guests with a welcome glass. The night begins.

Nothing says celebration like a magnum to begin.

Then the brackets begin.

Each wine bracket pours the new release alongside the aged release, served side by side. Three rounds of the trivia quiz, one for each bracket. Scan, taste, discuss, debate.

First Course

Slow cooked beef cheek, creamy mash, Tuscan kale, red wine jus

Bracket one: 2023 Bluegrass Shiraz and 2017 Bluegrass Shiraz

Second Course

Slow cooker red wine venison ragu with pappardelle and mushrooms

Bracket two: 2023 Bluegrass Cabernet Shiraz and 2016 Bluegrass Cabernet Shiraz

Third Course

Burn the candles down to the wick. Laugh, linger and give everyone a night to remember.

How to host your Bluegrass at Home night.

First, pick the occasion and decide how you want to run the night. Then pick the pack to match your table.

Step 1. Pick your occasion. Decide how to run the night.

Dinner parties can be hosted any way you like, so pick the format that fits the occasion.

Host Shouts

You cover the wines. You cover the food. The night is your treat to the people at the table.

Perfect for the milestones worth gathering for. A birthday. A wedding anniversary. A family reunion. The kind of night where you want everyone to walk in and just be looked after.

Divvy and Share

Every guest contributes to the evening. The wine gets split and each person kicks in. Each couple brings a slow cooked course.

Easy effort. Low stress. Memorable night.

A must for the long overdue catch up where nobody wants the host to wear the weight on their own. But still wants a great night in.

Also perfect for the wine enthusiasts' long table. Split it amongst the group, and let the new vs aged debate run.

Both formats work for any group size. Both formats deliver the same experience.

Step 2. Pick the pack to match your table.

Once you know how you're running the night, the pack choice is simple. It comes down to how many will be around the table.

Meet Chef Chiero.

Your menu, adapted from our cellar door Bluegrass Wine and Food Pairing.

Chef Chiero is Venetian born and trained in Italy and Paris. His approach to food is quality seasonal ingredients, slow cooked with care. He runs Mangia at Saddler's, the Bluegrass Wine and Food Pairing experience at the cellar door, and our events.

For Bluegrass at Home, Chef has adapted his pairing menu for the everyday kitchen. The dishes are still hearty, still flavoursome and still designed to make Bluegrass sing in the glass. Slow cooker friendly, minimal prep, fuss free. Put them on in the morning and walk away.

The wines. What makes this rare.

Bluegrass is our most adored red wine range. The aged releases in this pack are carefully cellared by us, rare and limited in quantity.

The heart of Saddler's Creek.

Bluegrass is the heart of Saddler's Creek. Made by our winemakers Brett Woodward and Sam Rumpit in our Hunter Valley winery. The Bluegrass Collection has been crafted in the same signature style since 1990. Balanced, elegant and fruit driven.

Most red wines sold in retail these days are made to drink young. Bluegrass is different. We craft Bluegrass for longevity, knowing these wines will evolve and mature beautifully over a decade or more.

The black label cellar release.

Each May, we open the doors to our museum reserves and release a small quantity of carefully aged Bluegrass to our Club Equus members. You'll recognise them by the black label, the signal that the wine has been carefully aged by us before release.

You won't find these on bottle shop shelves. You won't find them at most restaurants. And when you do, expect to pay upwards of $200 a bottle.

New vs aged. Tasted side by side.

What you taste in the new release. Bold, vibrant fruit. Firm tannins. A full bodied wine with power and structure. The Bluegrass in its youth.

What you taste in the aged release. Softened tannins. Fruit melding into harmony. A wine that's richer, smoother and more refined. Layered flavours and a long, lingering finish. The Bluegrass with patience.

In Bluegrass at Home, you pour both side by side. Same wine. Same region. Same winemaker. Years apart. The unique experience of the night is to taste the difference.

The Three Brackets

Bracket One — Bluegrass Shiraz

New: 2023 Bluegrass Shiraz
A long cool growing season delivered a Shiraz with elegance and depth. Plush dark fruits, hints of clove, cinnamon and nutmeg, layered over the signature American oak chocolate richness.

Aged: 2017 Bluegrass Shiraz Cellar Release
Nine years cellared. Softer tannins, savoury edges, leather, chocolate, dried fruit.

Bracket Two — Bluegrass Cabernet Shiraz

New: 2023 Bluegrass Cabernet Shiraz
The great Australian red. 60% Cabernet, 40% Shiraz. Black currant, blue fruit and a touch of menthol from the cooler vintage. Cabernet gives the structure. Shiraz fills the mid palate with raspberry, cranberry and red currant.

Aged: 2016 Bluegrass Cabernet Shiraz Cellar Release
Ten years on. Velvety with layered complexity. A wine showing exactly why we cellar it.

Bracket Three — Bluegrass Cabernet Sauvignon

New: 2023 Bluegrass Cabernet Sauvignon
The matriarch of the Bluegrass Collection. Big black and blue fruits, crushed menthol, choc mint, and the freshness only a cool year delivers. Built for the cellar. An easy eight years ahead, maybe longer.

Aged: 2017 Bluegrass Cabernet Sauvignon Cellar Release
Nine years cellared. Refined, deep, dark and utterly delicious. Cabernet at its best.

A rare tasting journey of aged premium reds, side by side with their new release, cellared by the people who made them. Bluegrass at Home brings it to your table.

  • The QR code to your phone friendly Trivia Quiz with three rounds, one for each bracket
  • A simple step by step guide to the night so you can host with confidence

The Wine Pouring Guide.

A standard wine glass holds 150ml. Most dinner party hosts pour generously, somewhere between 175ml and a full 250ml glass. For Bluegrass at Home, we recommend a tasting pour, around 60 to 100ml per glass per bracket. That lets your guests properly compare the new and aged release side by side and have enough to go around the table.

A typical 750ml bottle pours seven tasting glasses comfortably. The Dozen pack is perfectly sized for 5 to 8 guests across all three brackets, with a little left to revisit your favourite depending on your pour size and guests.

The Trivia Quiz.

Scan the QR code on your phone to start. Three rounds, one for each wine bracket. Each round mixes wine education, conversation starters, and tasting prompts. It's the wine journey wrapped in a guided game your table can play together.

No app to download. No expertise required. Just scan and play.

Tag us in your dinner party.

Frequently asked questions.

The details, sorted.

When will my Bluegrass at Home pack arrive?

We use Australia Post and shipping time varies across states. Metro delivery is typically 2 to 5 business days. Allow up to 2 weeks for regional delivery within Australia.

Plan your dinner party accordingly and aim to have your pack arrive a week before your night.

How many people does the Dozen pack serve?

This depends on the size of your pour. For a tasting event we recommend a 100ml pour per wine.

The Dozen pack is perfectly sized for 5 to 8 guests across all three brackets. This allows 90-150ml tasting pour per person.

A typical dinner party of four couples allows a 100ml pour each person plus a little extra for the cook.

For groups of more than 8, smaller pours or extra backup bottles are recommended.

How many people does the Six Pack serve?

The Six Pack is designed for an intimate gathering of up to 4 guests. One bottle per bracket, one new release alongside one aged release.

Do I need to be a Club Equus member to buy Bluegrass at Home?

No. Bluegrass at Home is available to everyone. However, Club Equus members save up to 39% on the Dozen and 28% on the Six Pack, plus receive a bonus magnum valued at $120.

Join Club Equus here to unlock member pricing instantly. Your first Club selection won't ship until spring.

Can I gift Bluegrass at Home to someone else?

Absolutely. Add the recipient's address at checkout and we'll send it straight to them. Add a note in the gift message field and we'll include it with the delivery.

Do I need wine glasses for the side by side tasting?

The flight mat in your delivery is designed for two glasses per bracket. We recommend adding the Saddler's Creek branded glass pack so each guest can taste new and aged side by side. Six branded glasses for $40 delivered.

What if I can't find venison for the second course?

Chef Chiero recommends substituting with lamb, beef or duck. Same slow cooker method, same flavour pairing with the Cabernet Shiraz bracket.

Can I host with vegetarian guests?

Yes. Chef Chiero's recipes can be adapted with hearty vegetarian alternatives like portobello mushroom ragu, slow cooked lentil stew, or roasted root vegetable mash. The wines pair beautifully with rich umami flavours.

How long do I have to host once my pack arrives?

No deadline. The wines are crafted to hold beautifully in your cellar or wine rack. Host whenever your people are available.

Where do I find the Trivia Quiz?

Pour the wine. Light the candles. Gather your people.

Bluegrass at Home is everything you need to host the dinner party people talk about long after the bottle is empty.

A wine journey across three brackets. Three slow cooked courses from Chef Chiero. A trivia quiz that gets the table talking. A bonus Bluegrass Sparkling Magnum to start the night. Official tasting glasses if you want the full side by side tasting experience.

Free delivery. Member pricing if you're Club Equus. And no deadline to host.

Whether you're shouting a milestone or divvying up with friends, whether you're hosting four or ten, whether you're a new wine explorer or a long time Bluegrass lover, the table is set.

The only question left is who's on the invite list.
