Some of the Hunter Valley’s most beautiful cellar doors sit up in Mount View. Rolling hills, misty winter mornings and views that stretch for miles. This winter, seven of them come together for one unforgettable day, and it finishes back with us at Saddler’s Creek.
This guide is built around that. Start at Saddler’s in Pokolbin, spend your days on the Mount View wine trail, and stay and eat nearby so you spend less time driving and more time tasting. Here is how to plan it.
Where is Saddler’s Creek, and where is Mount View?
Saddler’s Creek Wines sits on Marrowbone Road in Pokolbin, the heart of Hunter Valley wine country, about two hours north of Sydney. Mount View lies just to the south, a short and scenic drive away. Base yourself between the two and you have the best of both: Saddler’s fire pit and Mangia kitchen, and the quiet, view-soaked cellar doors of Mount View.

Why Mount View
Mount View is the Hunter at its most scenic and least crowded. Boutique, family-owned wineries with knockout views, terraced vines and a slower pace than the busier parts of Pokolbin. It is the kind of place where you settle in, take your time, and let the afternoon stretch out. Perfect for a winter escape.
At Saddler’s Creek
Make us your anchor point. We are perfectly positioned in Pokolbin, minutes from the Mount View turn-off, so you can taste with us before or after your trail. And in winter, the fire pit is lit, the reds are flowing and there is always something on.
What you can book with us right now:
- Alessandro Reserve Wine and Food Pairing. Our winter pairing. Six of our signature Alessandro Reserve wines matched to six plates from our Venetian chef, Chef Chiero, served in the Barrel Room. Daily at 12pm. $75 per person, $65 for Club Equus members.
- Premium Wine Tasting. Six wines, guided by our team and tailored to what you love. Seated in our outdoor tasting garden, or inside by the fire when the weather turns cold and wet. From $15 per person.
- Hunter Valley Vineyard Wine Walk with Lunch. Walk the estate vines with four wine and food pairings and a Mangia lunch included. Runs fortnightly on Sundays through winter, finishing on Father’s Day, Sunday 6 September. Limited to 20 guests. $115 per person.
- Wine and Chill and live music. A glass of Saddler’s in hand, a cosy spot by the fire and live music in the wine garden. Friday evenings from 5pm to 8pm and Saturday afternoons from 12:30pm to 3:30pm, plus Sunday afternoons from 12:30pm to 3:30pm when a Wine Walk is on. The last tasting session is at 3:30pm, so after that it is a glass or a bottle with something from the Mangia kitchen.
Add Mangia at Saddler’s, our fresh, seasonal Italian food served from the Airstream Kitchen in the wine garden. Friday 5pm to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 12pm to 3pm. Handmade pasta, slow-cooked ragu and antipasto. Order your food, then enjoy Saddler’s wine by the glass or bottle while you eat.

Saturday 8 August 2026 · Comedy All Stars. Live stand-up in the Barrel Room with Peter Berner, Andrew Barnett and MC Julia Wilson, plus a three-course Italian dinner by Chef Chiero. Dinner and show $135, show only $54.
Saturday 5 September 2026 · Discover Mount View. One ticket, seven Mount View cellar doors, a courtesy bus, and the day finishing back at Saddler’s with our Wine and Chill Afterhours.
Sunday 6 September 2026 · Father’s Day Wine Walk. Treat Dad to the final vineyard Wine Walk of the season, with four wine and food pairings and a Mangia lunch in the vines.

The main event: Discover Mount View
One ticket. Seven wineries. One unmissable day. On Saturday 5 September 2026, from 10am to 8:30pm, taste your way through seven boutique Mount View cellar doors at your own pace, with a courtesy bus running between them all. Your $35 ticket includes five 60ml tasting tokens to use across the wineries, a souvenir Discover Mount View tasting glass to keep, transport between every stop and access to exclusive offers and experiences along the way.
And the day finishes back with us. Saddler’s Creek hosts the Wine and Chill Afterhours, an evening bringing all the wineries together with live music, Italian dining and a welcome glass of sparkling. $10 per person to see the day out in style.
Meet the seven wineries
Whether you do the Discover Mount View day or plan your own trail, here are the seven boutique, family-owned cellar doors to know.
Saddler’s Creek Wines is your hero stop and the friendly face of the region. Premium wines for everyday enjoyment and for memorable occasions, from the everyday Saddler’s range to the iconic Bluegrass reds and the Alessandro Reserve collection. Fire pit, live music every Friday and Saturday, Mangia at Saddler’s and the exclusive Alessandro Reserve pairing.
Briar Ridge Vineyard is a Halliday Red Star winery with breathtaking outlooks, open six days a week. Book a private picnic, bring the dog for a Pooch Platter, or stay for fire-to-table dining at Estancia Osteria on site. Tastings from $15.
Carillion Wines at Tallavera Grove is perched above Tallavera Grove with arguably the best view in the Hunter. This Tuscan-style cellar door is family owned, with premium vineyards across the Hunter, Orange and Wrattonbully. Bistro Molines sits right alongside for hatted French dining.
Kelman Vineyard is a boutique community vineyard tucked in a quiet corner, with Blanc de Blancs, Semillon, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Tempranillo. Drop in for a leisurely tasting on the deck, or book a private tasting for up to 18. Open Friday afternoon and weekends.
Mount View Estate is one of the oldest vineyards in the region, first planted in 1971, and rated five stars by Halliday. Recently reborn after a full rebuild, with a distinguished boutique cellar door, personalised tasting flights and luxury accommodation on site. 100% estate grown and made.
Petersons Wines is family-run for more than five decades, on a hilltop with uninterrupted views to Mount Sugarloaf and the ranges beyond. Taste the wines that built the Petersons name: expressive Semillon, rich Chardonnay, bold Shiraz and small-batch releases. Open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm, Sunday 10am to 5pm.
Savannah Estate is a boutique winery led by third-generation winemaker Savannah Peterson. Settle in for a signature Pie and Wine tasting, where gourmet pies meet perfectly matched pours, or share a charcuterie board with the award-winning range.
Close to the cellar doors
Stay near the wineries so the cellar doors, and Saddler’s, are all within easy reach.
Right on the Mount View trail
Mount View Estate offers luxury accommodation on the trail itself. Eleven architecturally designed rooms, from studio apartments to two-bedroom villas and a five-bedroom house, overlooking the vineyards. Wake up among the vines and walk to your first tasting.
Cottages On Mount View are private, self-contained spa cottages set on 120 acres of bushland, each with a wood fireplace, full kitchen and some with a private outdoor spa. A complimentary welcome breakfast basket, and just a couple of minutes from the nearest cellar door.
Goosewing Cottage is a self-contained cottage close to the boutique wineries, warm and welcoming under its new owners. Ideal for couples.
A little closer to Saddler’s
Elfin Hill offers boutique studios and a self-contained loft in peaceful bushland at the foothills of the Brokenback Range, with a pool and true country hospitality. On Marrowbone Road, just along from Saddler’s.
If you want the full resort
The larger Pokolbin and Rothbury resorts sit roughly fifteen to twenty minutes from the Mount View cellar doors, and are worth it if you want golf, a day spa or a water park on site. Good options include Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort in Pokolbin, voco Kirkton Park in Pokolbin, Chateau Elan at The Vintage in Rothbury and family-friendly Rydges Resort Hunter Valley with its water park in Lovedale. For cottages and houses across the region, Hunter Holidays are the local specialists.
Where to eat and drink
Some of the Hunter’s best tables sit right among the vines.
Bistro Molines at Tallavera Grove is a Hunter icon perched above terraced vines, serving sophisticated, rustic French provincial cooking from Robert and Sally Molines. A Chef’s Hat holder year after year.
Estancia Osteria at Briar Ridge is fire-to-table dining that travels from Italy and the Mediterranean to South America, with cuts cooked over embers and Friday paella banquets. Relaxed, generous and full of flavour.
Savannah Estate serves gourmet Pie and Wine tastings and charcuterie boards, casual and easy between cellar doors.
Mount View Estate serves paired plates alongside the tasting flights, with those breathtaking views.
Just down the road, in Millfield
The Millfield Bar and Restaurant is relaxed country dining in a charming village setting.
The Central Millfield is a family-owned cafe for a laid-back breakfast or lunch.
Back at Saddler’s
Do not forget Mangia at Saddler’s, our Italian kitchen in the wine garden on Friday evening and over Saturday and Sunday lunch, and the fireside Wine and Chill sessions with live music. The perfect way to bookend a day of tasting.
Winter activities nearby
Hot air ballooning with Balloon Aloft drifts over the vineyards at sunrise, with a champagne breakfast to follow. More than 45 years flying the Hunter skies.
The Spa at Chateau Elan is one of the largest private day spas in Australia, with 17 treatment rooms, for a proper unwind after a day on the trail.
Hunter Belle Cheese Room and Cocoa Nib offer cheese tastings, gelato and artisan chocolate in Pokolbin, easy to fold into the drive.
Hunter Valley Wildlife Park is where you hand-feed kangaroos, wallabies and camels, and meet the giraffes at Nulkaba. One for the families.
