A SADDLER'S CREEK CLASSIC CLAIMS IT'S THIRD TROPHY
Saddler's Creek Wines in the Hunter Valley has picked up two trophies at the 2010 Sydney International Wine Show for their 2005 Classic Hunter Semillon.
The wine was awarded The trophy for Best Lighter Bodied Dry White Wine as well as the trophy for the SIWC Reserve Champion. The 2005 Classic Hunter Semillon was awarded the second highest point score from amongst 2000 red & white wine entries! Along with the trophy for Best Boutique Semillon at the recent Boutique Wine Awards, this wine company is deserving of some serious attention.
Winemaker, Nick Flanagan was on hand to accept the trophies and admitted that the two trophies came as quite a surprise.
"We have always known that we have had some seriously good Semillons in our cellar and not the least, this particular vintage. However, to receive the accolade of Reserve Champion for the show is something else. It is particularly gratifying to see also, that the top two pointed wines were Semillons at what the industry perceives to be one of the years more prestigious shows. It is now 11 years since we started producing a fresher, leaner style of Semillon that has proved successful with our loyal customers. To now see them all starting to be recognised as serious matured white wines is all that was hoped for back in 1999."
"We are not a large wine making company and this can put us at a disadvantage in not being able to exhibit our wines at the bigger shows because of our low quantities of production. So to be able to show this wine today and to then pick up a couple of 'gongs' is a wonderful opportunity for us. It was a strong field of wines, from around Australia, New Zealand and Europe so to come away, out pointing just about everyone, including the Top Red of Show, is quite an achievement"
Only a handful of cases of this wine are available, if you are interested click here.
